The flu is an acute respiratory illness that is caused by the influenza virus and can lead to pneumonia. As the virus mutates, it is important that you get the flu vaccine from your family doctor or local public health flu clinic or pharmacist.
The vaccine is free for anyone who lives, works or attends school in Ontario and is six months of age or older. Children younger than six months old cannot get the flu vaccine. For more information on the flu and the ways in which you can protect yourself and your family, call the Toronto Public Health Immunization Information line at (416) 392-1250. To find a flu clinic near you and its office hours, consult the City of Toronto’s flu clinic schedule.
