The City of Toronto’s Planning Division and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are working on extending the Bloor-Danforth Subway line into Ward 41. TTC staff is currently working to determine the alignment of the new subway into our community.

It is anticipated that the Scarborough RT will continue to operate during construction of the Scarborough Subway. The new subway may take 1 of 4 routes: (1) Follow the current Scarborough RT alignment (in this case the SRT would shut down and be replaced by shuttle buses); (2) Travel east under Eglinton Ave. E., turn northeast under Danforth Rd. and finally head north under McCowan Rd.; (3) Travel east under Eglinton Ave. E. and north under Brimley Rd. and; (4) Travel east under Eglinton Ave. E. and north under Markham Rd.

Whichever alignment the Scarborough Subway follows, it must connect to Scarborough Town Centre (to serve the bus terminal, the employment district, the shopping centre and surrounding residential area) and Sheppard Ave. E. (to connect with a future transit line on Sheppard Ave. E.). The TTC is considering the various alignments to provide the best coverage of improved transit as there is also Mayor Tory’s proposed SmartTrack line, which will use the same rail corridor currently used by the Scarborough RT and the Stouffville GO Train line, and these are both higher orders of transit systems which require major financial commitments.
