Dear Brimley Forest Neighbour,

As we begin this new term of Council, I am eager to continue working with you to build a better city and a better community. I have been elected Chair of Scarborough Community Council (SCC) by my Scarborough colleagues. I will also continue to champion the Scarborough Subway and SmartTrack – local and city-wide transit solutions and bring vibrancy into Scarborough.

Earlier this month, city councillors were briefed by TTC and city staff on the Scarborough Subway. Although City Council had voted for the Scarborough Subway, the proposed alignment and environment assessment had not even started, and is only now starting post-election. Due to the close proximity of the Scarborough Subway and the proposed SmartTrack line, TTC has expanded the study area of the Scarborough Subway from the current SRT alignment east all the way to Markham Road, and from Eglinton to Sheppard. There will be public consultations during the study phase.

At our December 2014 meeting, City Council approved $750,000 to accelerate studying the feasibility of SmartTrack. I have always advocated for the GO system to run all day, 2-way, with an integrated fare system with local transit (TTC, YRT, etc), and preferably electrified. The proposed 55 km SmartTrack line with 22 stops will use existing GO rail lines and will provide faster service than the current public transit options, in addition to providing transit options to downtowners working in the suburbs.

SmartTrack will bring rail-based rapid transit service to all of Scarborough and to the north of Scarborough (including Brimley Forest Community), significantly cutting commute times for those who work and study downtown.

If my office can be of service or assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact us.
