The Towering Waste Challenge – 10 Days left to sign up!

Did you know that almost half of Toronto residents live in apartment, condo or co-op buildings but they recycle and compost much less than single-family homes?

In fact, last year multi-unit buildings diverted only 27% of their waste compared to 65% diverted by single-family homes. We all have a part to play to reach the City of Toronto’s goal of 70% diversion from landfill, that’s why Mayor John Tory recently announced the Mayor’s Towering Waste Challenge.

This competition is open to any building in Toronto with nine or more units. Over a six-month period, buildings will compete to see if they can reduce their waste the most through recycling, reusing and participating in the Green Bin organics Program.  Registered buildings will receive resources and support from City staff to help them achieve greater waste diversion. The winning building will receive recognition at a special event hosted by the Mayor 2017.

Property managers, board members, superintendents, 3Rs Ambassadors, owners or residents, are eligible to register on behalf of their building (permission may be required).
